Art on Deck

Back on February 8th and 9th, 2008 the United States Art Authority in Austin presented "Art on Deck", a skateboard art show that consisted of boards from the 70's, 80's and 90's from someone's private collection. A person, I never got a chance to meet and someone none of my friends knew either.

The show kicked off Friday night with the official opening reception and live music. Turn out was decent I guess. I mean if you've seen one reissued board, you've seen them all. I don't know how many were actually originals but it was still cool to see some memorable graphics. Most people hung out side of the venue in the patio section of neighboring bar because the music was too loud to converse too, but I can say the bands were good. Real good!

Saturday there was a skate demo by Find n Grind Skateshop that I didn't make it too but I'm sure it was legit and the exhibit continued thru Saturday evening. I snapped a few photos of the boards on display so you had an idea of what was there and incase you couldn't make it. Entry fee's suck, so do high beer prices, but at least my $5 went to benefit the Austin EcoSchool; whatever that is. - Mefford
