Out of Towner: Aryeh Kraus
Aryeh Kraus is a guy I met briefly one night in Austin just before he had to head back to Los Angeles with his friends after visiting Texas for 9 days to skate and film for Matt William’s video project. All I remember was that he was quiet and had some insane Side Show Bob hair. Well, he came back a couple weeks later on his own and I managed to get a few photos and thought he would be perfect for a little project I wanted to start. 4Duos is happy to present our first “Out of Towner”. -Mefford
During the trip that I met you, was it your first visit to Texas?
Yeah, I came down to hang out with Matt Williams and just enjoy myself while skateboarding and filming for Matt’s video.
How do you know Matt Williams?
I met Matt while he lived in El Segundo, CA. We went out skating with a little crew in LA and ever since then we have been best buds.
I must assume you enjoyed your time in Texas because you came back like 2 weeks later.
Yeah! The people are way cool there, there are great spots and I wanted to continue filming for Matt’s video.
Will you have a full part in the video and when can we expect it?
I will be having a full part and it should be dropping in early summer.
I watched a nice little video you made too. What was it called?
Right State of Mind.

Do you consider yourself more of a filmer or a skater? Perhaps you are a “Skilmer”? (Do you get it? Pure genius!)
Hum, skilmer would be the best word to describe me because I do film a lot but I try and get down on the board.
Well you can definitely get down. Not a lot of people can film or shoot and actually skate really well too.
Thanks. I enjoy doing both, so the days where I am really tired to skate work out really well for filming. There are days though that I want to skate but end up filming for so long that by the time I try and skate I am just too exhausted.
Can we find a copy of your video, Right State of Mind anywhere?
I have just been selling them from my backpack haha!
What cities did you get to skate and which was your favorite?
I skated San Antonio, Houston and Austin. Houston was my favorite the first trip and Austin during the second trip.
Even though I only got to know you for a few days I feel like I learned a lot about you. For starters you are mature, polite and sincere. Something a lot of young skaters aren’t. You are Jewish and only eat Kosher, you don't drink or smoke, you are pretty quiet and obviously an artistic and creative person. What is something I didn't get to learn about you?
I am 20 years of age, live at home, do not attend college, work at a skateshop and enjoy helping out others whether it be with money, motivation or filming.
There's probably a lot more you didn't learn.
We shot quite a bit in Austin but during our trip to Houston you got hurt immediately. How did you manage to hurt yourself so you could not skate the entire weekend?
Man, I was so bummed on that. I was ready to get some flicks. I am sorry to have let you down. I rolled my ankle on flat. Well, my ankles are pretty bad or let me say weak and I didn't stretch out and went for a nollie heel on flat and my foot decided to go off the nose and just tweaked really bad.
Since you couldn’t skate all weekend, I noticed you carried around a doodle pad.
I like drawing or trying to draw but that was a sketch pad.
You mean doodle pad?
Yes doodle pad, hahahaha!
Speaking of doodles, you and Matt both got tattoo’s of Michael Sieben’s artwork and then you got another one as soon as you got home in LA. What’s up with that?
The first time I saw his art, I was way into it. I wanted to get a tattoo of a bird for a while now and it worked out well that Sieben had a sick drawing of that bird on the branch with the words, “I need to learn some new songs”.

Did you like being woken up in the middle of the night by a naked body?
Shit was funny, well kind of.
Do you think Matt liked my wiener wake-up?
Um I don't know. He didn't seem to be that down.
You win some, you lose some.
Yeah this is very true.
Was there anything you regret not getting while you were here?
Yup most definitely. The tre flip over the street gap across from Tranquility in Houston, the one I kickflipped in the 4D montage and nollie flip down the Broadway 11 in San Antonio.
Anything you were stoked to get while you were here?
Back 50 the Lost Creek 13 in Austin.
Yeah, that was sick! Kudos!
Actually everything and anytime I got a chance to skate and didn't stress out while skating.

What is the biggest difference in the lifestyles of us Texans vs. you weirdo's in California?
Texans seem to be a little more friendly and mellowed out.
And the girls are hotter in Texas?
I have think about that. There are a lot of hot girls in both places!
Plans to return soon?
I'm thinking about it. Depends on the cost of a plane ticket, work and whatever else life throws at me.
This is the point where you talk about who you ride for; give shout outs and thank you’s and whatever because I am done talking to you now.
I ride for Addikt Skateboards and 9 Star Skateboard Shop in Los Angeles. I’d like to thank my family, friends and anyone who has helped me out.
